About Me

Me as a designer
Lily Hitchcock is an innovative and conscientious designer maker who graduated in July 2024 with a degree in Product and Furniture Design from Plymouth University. Here she learnt to use a range of materials and experiment with different processes, including metal, ceramics and textiles. Working with timber, specifically British timber, was her favourite. She experimented with steam-bending which, combined with her general interest in wood and furniture design, earned her a place on the Create Programme with The King’s Foundation, where she continued to experiment with timber as well as advancing her knowledge in the material itself and learning traditional craft techniques.
With her work, she has an ambition to create mindful and meaningful designs that make a positive difference to a user and their environment. She aims to encourage and build a relationship and emotional attachment between the piece and its user. Sustainable practices in professional and everyday life are a core value of her work: responsibly sourced materials and the provenance of them strengthen the meaning of a piece. She specialises in working with wood, but also works with a range of other materials, experimenting and advancing her knowledge to create unique pieces with purpose.
Lily focusses on using a material-first approach and enjoys experimenting with new ways of using timber to combine her passion for traditional craft and detail with contemporary design. Inspiration is also drawn from her life and surroundings, rooted in her upbringing in the Cotswolds and the timeless and natural landscape of the countryside.
